These RNA-binding proteins were proposed either to act as RNA chaperones reshaping the RNA structure or to affect the recruitment of essential initiation factors including the 40S ribosomal subunit [5]. WebLike their viral counterparts, cellular IRESs may need the aid of additional factors to promote internal initiation. Such components are termed IRES trans -acting factors (ITAFs), and some of them are even shared between cellular and viral mRNAs.
